Adelaide My model turned out better than I thought it would! The shape of my model was a ballerina, which had its arms in an o shape and the legs in a p shape. First we had to roll 8 newspaper sticks, so that we could bend our models into shape! By the way it was really hard! When we had rolled our sticks Ann (the artist teacher) told us the next step. When I was listening I thought it sounded hard, but when I started I found it quite easy! The last step was to us papier mache to hold it in place and make it look better. By the end of the day we all finished! | Adam My model went very well but it was very tricky to make. Firstly we all had to roll up 8 newspaper very tight and then we had to tape it with masking tape to hold it in place. 5JM kept coming into my class so Ann the artist could show the next step. Then we started making our models in class. It was really hard and it took all day. I really enjoyed the papier mache because it was very gooey and warm. Tigerlily I loved doing the models and my shape was in a running position because I thought it would be cool. I was so happy with myself because it actually came to shape. The thing that was hardest to do was the paper rolling because every time I got to the very end I accidentally let go and had to start again. It kept doing my head in but after a while I actually ended up doing 8 newspaper rolls. And in the end I had a perfect model. Matthew Last Thursday we all made models and I called mine Creeper (the Minecraft explosive monster)!! Mine didn't go so well at first because when we had to roll up the 8 newspaper strips really thin so they wouldn't snap they always kept unrolling but thanks to Miss Nattrass it came back to life. She helped us by giving a thin wooden stick so we could roll it up easier because people were struggling. Lets get 10 comments this week at least! |
Last Thursday we made models with an artist called Ann. 5JM and 5FM spent the whole day having fun and learning new skills.

Use the clues to work out which shape I am? Then make up your own clues for someone else to have a go at. 1) My net has 6 rectangles and two hexagons. 2) I have 5 faces and 5 edges. 3) I have 2 edges but no vertices. 4) I am a regular polygon with 3 lines of symmetry. 5) I have 3 sides but no lines of symmetry. 6)I am a quadrilateral with 2 lines of symmetry. None of my angles are right angles. 7) Each of my four angles is a right angle. My diagonals are not perpendicular. 8) I’m not a square, but my four sides are of equal length. 9) I’m a quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel sides. 10) I have 8 faces, all of which are triangles.
For more information about Year 5's Super Blog Squad, check out our first post last week! This Thursday Year 5 invited their parents to come and take part in our Team Challenge day. All the parents experienced working with other children and their own. Here are some of the challenges that we did.
On Wednesday, 1st of May, a group of Y5 children went fly fishing to Scout Dike. It was a sunny morning when we set off on the mini bus with Mr Calvert and Mr Marsh. After arriving at Scout Dike, we met Peter, Mike and Kate (who had been coming in to school to teach us how to fish) and they took us down to a hut near the water. After that, we all set our rods up and put our flies on our lines. We were all excited and ready to fish... Firstly, we walked slowly with our heavy bags to the place where we were going to fish, which had a nice sunny bank. Soon after, we were all in position and casting in! About an hour later, some of us were getting a bit bored as nobody had been lucky enough to catch a fish so we had lunch. We were all wondering who would get the first bite when Presley had a bite on his fly while he was eating his dinner! Peter came to the rescue. Presley wanted to take it home for his dinner. “Mmmmm!” said Mr Marsh. After looking at Presley’s fish, which was a rainbow trout, everybody got back to fishing. About three quarters of an hour later Mr Marsh caught a brown trout. Now the fish were coming in. Shaun had a fish but it got off of his hook so he was disappointed . After that, know body was having any bites so they just kept on casting out. Now Presley had caught a perch it was only little but it had spikes. At the end of the day we had to set of back to the other side to take our rods apart and give them back to Peter, Mike and Kate. Mr Calvert was unhappy because he had not caught a fish . Now we had to set back of home through the rocky mountainsides and beautiful villages. Everyone was having a good laugh on the way back to school about what a fantastic day we had had. We hope we get to go again! By Tyler H.D On Wednesday, 1st of May, a group of Y5 children travelled to Scout Dike to go fly fishing. We went with Mr Marsh and Mr Calvert. It was a nice, sunny day and when we arrived, we met Peter, Kate and Mike, who we knew already as they had been coming into school to help us learn fly fishing. They brought equipment for us to use so we all carried it down to the lake. Soon after that, we prepared our rods and flies ready to fish! Nervously, we all cast our lines onto the water, wondering who would be the first to catch a fish. We were waiting quite a long time when suddenly Presley leapt up excitedly as a fish had caught his fly and it was trying to get away! Luckily, Peter, who was nearby, assisted Presley to reel in his fish. It was a beautiful rainbow trout measuring about 30 cms long. After having a good look at his fish, we all raced back to our places, eager to catch our own! Half an hour later Mr Marsh had a bite of a brown trout and Mr Culvert was jealous! Then we had lunch but first we had to put some gel on just in case we had an infection. After the lovely lunch we all went back to our rods. Then suddenly I had a bit but it got away. I said” oooooooorrrrrrrrrrr I missed it!” We were all bored until we heard mike shouted “move your rods a little you might get a catch of a brown trout!” We had 5mins left so what could we do in that time but wait. Soon after that we had to pack away. Next we went steadily back to the mini bus. It was about 3:15 when we got to school .We would love go again! By Kyle Introducing... For the next few weeks four children in Year 5 will be writing a regular blog post about what they've been doing in school. Each week they'll choose something different to talk about.
This week, we find out about Topic! Adam Last Monday we drew China on a map in topic. It was fun and I enjoyed all of it. First we drew a graph on some squared paper then we drew China on the paper. Next Miss Magor wrote some coordinates on the white-board then we had to place them on our paper. We found out that China is the largest country in Asia. Adelaide On Wednesday and Thursday we started making power points on the iPads about China. We did it on an app called Keynote which is great because you can do lots of amazing things like animation, effects and you can make as many as you like! Before we made our power points we had to at least find ten facts about China. For example, did you know that they invented ice-cream? When we got our iPads Miss Magor showed us what to do and by the end of the two lessons most people had finished! Tigerlily In Mrs Mulroy’s class we have been learning how to draw the Great Wall of China. We also learnt lots of different facts about the wall and that it was built 2000 years ago. Miss Nattrass taught us how to draw a 3D block because on the Great Wall of China there are watch towers which look better 3D. My drawing was a little bit harder than I thought because making it 3D was difficult. Matthew This week in class we have been drawing bar graphs to show the rainfall and the temperature in China. We all chose a city and did ether rainfall or temperature. Most of us chose rain fall because it was easiest to round to the nearest 10. I thought it was easy but some people found the rounding to the nearest ten hard. That's it from our bloggers for now! Tune in next week for an update. This week in 5JM we have been learning about the Great Wall of China and its surroundings! We decided to draw the Great Wall. Everyone really enjoyed sketching thier pictures and we had a great time. Miss Natrass (our helper) helped us to draw some 3D shapes to make our pictures stand out. Here are some excellent examples of our work!!! By Amelia and Emilia. |
